Henrizi-Schneider American Legion Post 382 has made a meaningful contribution to the Menomonee Falls Historical Society by donating funds to update the displays at the Steichen House at Old Falls Village Historical Park. These new exhibits will focus on fallen soldiers, ensuring their sacrifices are remembered and respected by the community and visitors alike. A dedication of the new displays is expected to be held later this summer.

The Importance of the Gold Star Wall

The Gold Star wall honors service members who lost their lives while serving during a  military conflict. Their families receive a Gold Star to signify the ultimate sacrifice made by their loved ones. Honoring these veterans is a vital way to preserve history and recognize the cost of freedom. The updated displays at the Steichen House will provide a dedicated space in Menomonee Falls to tell their stories and educate the public about their contributions.

How the Donation Will Enhance the Steichen House

Henrizi-Schneider Post 382's donation will fund several key improvements to the Steichen House displays:

  • New Informational Panels: These will include detailed biographies and photographs of local Gold Star Veterans, highlighting their service and personal stories.

  • Memorabilia and Artifacts: Personal items, medals, and letters of soldiers are being collected adding a tangible connection to the veterans’ experiences.

  • Honoring Veterans: A second room in the house will be updated to commemorate all individuals who have served in the military and either resided in the Falls or are interred in one of the local cemeteries.

These enhancements will transform the Steichen House into a more engaging and educational space, making the history of Gold Star Veterans and service of other Veterans who served from our community more visible and impactful.

The Role of the Henrizi-Schneider Post in the Community

Established in 1932, the Henrizi-Schneider American Legion Post 382 has a long history of supporting veterans and community projects. Their involvement in this initiative reflects their commitment to preserving military history and honoring those who served. By partnering with the Historical Society, the Legion Post helps bridge the gap between past and present, connecting community members with the stories of sacrifice and bravery.

This donation is part of a broader effort by the Legion to support veteran-related causes, including:

  • Organizing memorial events and ceremonies

  • Providing assistance to veteran families

  • Promoting educational programs about military service

Their support for the Steichen House project highlights the importance of community involvement in preserving local history.

What Visitors Can Expect from the New Displays

Once completed, visitors to Old Falls Village Historical Park will find the Steichen House transformed into a place of reflection and learning. The new Gold Star Veterans displays will offer:

  • Personal Stories: Detailed accounts of individual veterans’ lives and service

  • Historical Context: Information about the conflicts in which these veterans served

  • Community Connection: Recognition of local families and their sacrifice

These features will help visitors understand the human side of military service and the impact on families and communities.
